Seatcovers 08 f250 |
Made from Bed Cover MicroFabric |
| Can be done on simple home machine |
Here is how and $$
Materials: 100.00 Time 6 hours (now that I have patterns I could remake them in 1 hour.).
First I decided on whats the most important and in order 1:Durability 2:keeping them clean 3:ease of installing/removing 4:looks then cost.
I wanted black fabric to match my interior. So I headed down to Bed bath and beyond. Found some Microfabric bed covers on sale @ 23.00 each I purchased 3 of them. Also, I had some Clear vinyl (same stuff you see on boat windows)I will use this to make my petterens. Also needed was some edging material I decide on some BLACK ELASTIC 1" .
I removed all my seats to make it easier (that back seat must weigh 200 lbs! (NS) anyways I cut the clear vinly to the shapes i wanted I would say the accuracy is within 1/2 inch (so guessing is ok.) also I used a chalk stick on the fabric for control marks (used when sewing the parts together) I Transferd the control marks to the cear using a black permanent marker. as you can see in the pics. once ll the patterens were cut. I laid them out on the fabric to minimise material waste. then I cut out all my pieces. dont forget to transfer the control marks to the new fabric. then come the sewing.
I have 3 mchines at my disposal. 1 home style machine and 2 commercial machines. I can tell you this fabric was so light weight it can without a doubt be sewn up on any home machine (get your wife to do it f you cant muster up the skillZ.) one the pieces were sewn together. I edged them with the black elastic. and added the neccessary pieces along the edges to secure the covers where needed. and to my taste. and thats it. put them on and reinstall the seat covers.
One last thing. When I decide I am going to have some embrodering done on
the covers to make them look more proffesional. Ill post Pics when that gets
done.
